Salernitana: Stadio Arechi

By Emmet Gates

Published on: August 29, 2024

Salernitana has for most of its life as a football club lived in the shadow of Napoli. Located in the Campania region of Italy, Salernitana has some of the most passionate fans in the country, but are yet to win any trophies of any major importance.

The city of Salerno is one of the most beautiful cities in southern Italy and Italians flock to its beaches every summer. Formed in 1919, Salernitana has only played five seasons in Serie A, and spent three consecutive seasons in the top flight from 2021-24, but suffered relegation in 2023-24 after picking up just 17 points all season.

The club has spent the majority of its existence in Serie B or C, with the I Granata, as they’re known, having spent some 87 seasons combined in the lower reaches.

The club play in the Stadio Arechi, one of Italy’s more modern stadiums. Built in 1990 after the club outgrew the much smaller Stadio Vesuti, the Arechi has a reputation for being one of the most boisterous stadiums in Italy, thanks to the club’s fanatical supporters.
